Parents & Caregivers

Parent/Caregiver input and help is welcomed at LAP. Parents/Caregivers are not required to participate in our daily program, or any other aspect of school life. You can be as involved as you want to be. Our door is always open for those who would like to see their child in the classroom setting, and we are happy to arrange a Friday afternoon meeting, should you wish to discuss your child's experiences at the preschool.

We have a Parent Room located at the end of out hallway, where we encourage parents to relax, read resource material, or get together for conversation. Toys are available for younger siblings.

There is a volunteer Parent Communicator for each class, who checks in regularly with all parents and attends monthly Preschool Committee meetings. If you have any feedback, concerns, or questions that you are not comfortable bringing to the teachers, please feel free to approach your communicator for assistance.

How to Get Involved

Our program has been greatly enriched by the talents and generosity of our parents. There are many ways in which parents/caregivers may participate and contribute to LAP:

  • Volunteer to read a story, sing a song, share a special skill, or lead the children in a craft or cooking project
  • Spend a day at the preschool as a 'kid' or a helper
  • Assists by attending excursions or volunteering to drive
  • Join us for special events at the preschool
  • Volunteer to help organize, decorate, cook or run an activity during special events
  • Bring a treat for all of the children to share to celebrate your child's birthday
  • Sign up for "Work Days" at the end of the year, when the preschool re-organizes the environment
  • Check out the documentation boards showcasing the children's work
  • Contribute ideas or materials to enrich a project
  • Collect and donate recycled materials (fabric, cork, paper towel rolls etc.)
  • Read newsletters/announcements sent home
  • Attend the Parent Night information session at the beginning of the year
  • Volunteer to help with Scholastic Book order program
  • Participate in fundraising activities
