Dear LAP parents (and others),
I am writing to confirm what most of you already know: that on February 24, the members of West Point Grey Baptist Church, on the unanimous recommendation of the Board of Deacons, voted to close Little Ark Preschool, June 30, 2013.
We met for more than 2 hours of discussion, including the participation of several LAP parents. An email cannot convey the range of emotions that this hard decision brings to all of us who are concerned with LAP.
We at the church know that our reputation in the community may be seriously affected. We also know that for more than forty years we have sought to bear witness to Jesus' love for children through LAP, among other ministries. This has been a very difficult process for us. We take seriously our stewardship of our place in the neighbourhood, our building, and our people.
We will be seeking to discern over the next year how we might serve the community in a new way. We also know that it now places all of you in some difficulty. The links at the bottom of the page seek to answer some of your questions and explain our decision. One document lists the preschools that we know of west of Arbutus. On Thursday and Friday last week, members of our congregation called these preschools to find out what openings they may have. The marginal notes are what we were able to learn .
I ask that you direct any response to my church email address, jonathan@wpgbc.org. That address is listed on some the attached documents as well. I wish you peace and hope.
Sincerely,
Jonathan R. Wilson Moderator of the Church and Chair of the Board of Deacons,
2008-2012
